A country is supposed to feel like home, where one feels safe and secure, and most important of all, free.

However, more so than before, Pakistanis are increasingly facing rising levels of insecurity and blood pressure.

There is currently yet another military operation going on in the tribal areas, in an attempt to establish, yet again, the writ of the state. Baitullah Mehsud, the head of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan says they might strike in the provinces of Punjab and Sindh next if the operation continues. The fragile coalition government in the country is on the verge of collapsing if the judges’ issue is not solved soon. And to top it all off, petrol and diesel prices have been raised once again in the country, making it next to impossible for the masses to survive.

There are solutions for the plethora of problems this country is facing. They may not be easy, and they may take some time to solve, but at the end of the day, they are problems created by the forces that have ruled over this country for the past thirty years or so.

It is time for our political and military leaders to put their egos aside, admit their mistakes and fix them. For if they do not do so, and soon, they might just be looking at the end of the state of Pakistan.

”they are problems created by the forces that have ruled over this country for the past thirty years or so” ...

I quite with what you’ve said here. Most of our problems are stimulated by our own beaurocracy, be it civil or millitary, for gaining support of their masters in the western world.

Insecurity is self willed than a natural one. It came because of catastrophic policies against neighbors. Taliban is gaining ground!!!and why is certainly not a question to ask. A fierce battle for the control of the area is going on in Peshawer. And army facing a tough fight against set terrorists who won’t let the things to go too easy in favor of the govt. this is not all that worrisome at the moment but the nuclear arsenal that if once will fall to Taliban, there will be no looking back for all of us…I hope this won’t happen but don’t see it far.

it has been often seen that those who set fire could not escape its wrath. Pakistan is one of them. They cropped terrorism against India and helped them with the moral and financial support. But they forgot that the terrorist are friends to none. Now its useless to make a hue and cry against a war already lost. They will now pay for it, don't start howling, this is what Pakistan is destined to, now bear it.

I am would also like to say here that people of Peshawar do not support or approve any of views held by the terrorists. I being a Pakistani, request that these fanatics should be wiped out. The process would be longer but it may be possible. If US can help us I, i will really appreciate that and this would be one of their true campaigns against, and if Pak Army come to the lime this time I will salute them being the true saviors.

there is firm need for the Pakistan govt. to crush these terrorists firmly Talibanis must be crushed with iron hand, Pakistani regime of Musharraf is responsible for their regrouping, if they would had taken action long time ago.Talibans would not have gained any power. for that matter first step that Pakistan should take is to arraign Musharraf.

when terrorists are gripping Pakistan hard, the govt. is signing the peace deal. there can be no deal with the terrorists. they do not understand the meaning of peace...even are not familiar with it...they understand only one language... Pakistan need to talk them with that not to look for the peace deal.

No one wants to fix problems these days. Lack of political will is biggest epidemic of the present era making common man’s life unsafe and vulnerable...

Sixty years ago, when the India was bifurcated into two nations - India and Pakistan, the Aligarh Muslim University in India bore the burnt as the institution was considered as the last post of Pakistan within India on accounts of the role of Aligarians in successfully raising the demand for a separate nation for Muslims during the British Raj.

The case of Pakistan at present bears an analogy to that situation. Pakistan was used and misused by the western powers for their vested interests and it suited to a coterie within Pakistan monetarily.

Every one is aware that Taliban was propped up by the US to counter the advances of the Soviet Russia in Afghanistan and Pakistan was used. The US paid dearly for this act and now Pakistan has no other alternative but to pay for its sins to rear a deadly ’animal’.

The need of the hour is to ponder over the issues in a cool manner and devise ways to take out Pakistan from this catch-22 situation and on way to development and prosperity.

The neighbours are duty-bound to help Pakistan in this endeavour.

I agree. Pakistan is unsafe than ever. I find it surprising, no a bit pleasing that even under the specter of massive insecurity cricketers from the Indian subcontinent can find the courage to play Cricket and if they have time, go out in the highly unsafe city of Karanchi and enjoy life. That is the way of the Indian and subcontinent life.

Life in insecurity. I hope our leaders have the courage like the citizens to set things right and make this part of the planet a safe place to live.

One reason Pakistan is such an unsafe place is because guns are as freely found in this land as chocolates and some might say there are more guns and bullets than sweets in Pakistan. In towns like Peshawar and Karanchi, the Gun culture is especially a menace and any government must be strong enough to do something about it.

Guns in hands of highly unstable people is no good.

The incidents in Peshawar show the extreme end of the Gun culture in Pakistan where things can reach to a point that citizens can be bold enough to resist the rule of law with impunity and be confident enough to get away with it.

How can you feel safe in a place where on every street you can never be sure whether the people living in it will come at you with guns blazing.

Even the Pakistani military is feeling the blues and military compounds are common targets.

I think living in Pakistan during the current state of fear is roughly the same as people in Bihar felt all those years when Lalloo was in rule. kidnapings and killings were the order of the day.

Comparisons aside, I feel sorry for the people of Pakistan and I think the only way out for the Pakistani people is the de-militarizatin of the Pakistan polity and society. How can you be safe when knock-offs of AK-47/56 are freely available?

While we are discussing the state of insecurity in Pakistan, I wonder if anyone has done any list making about the top 10 unsafe cities in Pakistan, ranking cities by the number of licensed guns, unlicensed guns, number of shootings and so on.

It would also be useful to know about the influence of religion - I mean clerics, Taliban, right wing political parties in each city. I suspect that the Taliban are having a field day in Pakistan. The snake has come back to bite.

After reading your write up HUMZA, and the comments of all our Pakistani friends out there, it really dawns on one that pastures are not that green on that side after all.

”It is time for our political and military leaders to put their egos aside, admit their mistakes and fix them. For if they do not do so, and soon, they might just be looking at the end of the state of Pakistan”

Ironically Humza, if these egos would have been sorted out at the right time, then there would not have been a Pakistan after all. We would still have been, a happy, powerful and unified nation.

But all our wishes do not get fulfilled do they?

Well, it’s an old story, and what one should keep in mind is to cope up with the present situation, and look for solutions and more importantly see to it that they are implemented with effectivity.

BE AWARE OR BEWARE!!!

INSHA ALLAH APKE MASAIL ZAROOR HAL HONGE...

THAT’S ALL URDU I CAN MANAGE! :)

PARDON ME IF THERE ARE ANY GOOF UPS THERE.

PRAYING TO ALLAH FOR THE WELL BEING OF OUR NEIGHBOURS BEYOND THE BORDER...!

KHUDA HAFIZ.
